together

We forget why we are here. We get wrapped up in the presidential debates, religious dogma, who has what car, the usual. We have to get back to the basics of what is most important. We are here for each other. This means we need to come from a place of:

  • Kindness
  • Thoughtfulness
  • Forgiveness
  • Love

When we are looking at the people around us and feel frustration, anger, fear, resentment in any form, it’s not about them. It’s about us!

Story: The day that I realized I had anger issues stemming from projecting outward occurred while I was living in Thailand. I had woken up late, and thus was late getting my then 3 year-old to school, the same pre-kindergarten school where I taught 4-5 year-old Thai natives English. I threw on my clothes, her clothes, and flew into the car. I can’t remember if it was me driving or not, but every single person on the road was in my way… and driving about 10 km under the speed limit. It was all I could do to keep from laying on the horn and screaming out loud. It was their fault that I was going to be late!

And then I stopped…

I realized it wasn’t their fault at all. I was in control of my life. I woke up late. I needed to change my patterns to ensure that I was taking care of myself and my family. It’s not their fault that they were leisurely driving down the road, probably enjoying life for what it was.

I realized that: I am not here to hate or judge, but to love and show compassionate kindness. By spreading my anger, I expand feelings of fear, frustration, hate – negativity. By owning up to my own stuff, my own baggage, my responsibilities for my actions, I begin to realize and understand who I am, who you are, and why we are here: FOR EACH OTHER.

Let’s not get caught up in the drama. Let’s stop and smile, with our eyes, at every person we meet. Let’s hug our friends, neighbors, acquaintances and let go of resentments. Let’s reflect the good in us outward. Let’s do what we came here to do: spread kindness, compassion, love, peace.  Let’s make our “me” a “WE.”
