As distracting as it might be, ringing in your ears is actually a positive sign. In sum, it means you're awakening! Your body and brain are attuning to higher frequencies of, let's just say, communication. In this article, we're going to cover what the ringing in your ears could mean spiritually and metaphysically, and what you can do with it.

I recall in my early-on realization of my otherworldly gifts - and with the fact that I even had them to begin with - that my ears were ringing nonstop. The high pitches would go from one ear to the other, randomly throughout the day. Since then, I've observed many-a-client enter my room complaining of the same annoying tinnitus. With something so persistent, it can be challenging to be "grateful." 

Much like my clients, since I'd heard the ringing sporadically my entire life, I didn't think much of it except that it was a distraction. None of us really do... until it's so persistent we don't have a choice.

In my late 30s, still working and teaching, the ringing amped up. It was happening more frequently throughout the day, and it was getting progressively louder. At that point, I had established that there was a man speaking to me in my head, I'd seen what I didn't fully understand as past lives in meditative visions, and I'd been visited by my ex-husband's dead grandfather. I understood none of it, but kept plugging away like we do.

It was not until I began deep diving into understanding my unique connectedness to Spirit and my Higher Self that a "solution" to the ear ringing was provided. My then-mentor suggested that the ringing might actually be communication from higher frequencies, that we humans in the 3-D tend to move and perceive slower than that of the angels and ascended masters. Later, I studied that these frequencies could be tachyons, hypothetical particles carrying fast-moving information. These particles and the information within them can be picked up by our auric field within our chakras. I learned that with intuition and intuitive expansion, the chakras act as a sort of "vacuum," pulling in bits and pieces, like codes, that we can learn to perceive and interpret.

With all this new knowledge, I raised a curious and somewhat skeptic eyebrow. I decided to monitor when the high-pitched messages were happening and in which ear. (I love me a good self case study.)

To my surprise and delight, I noticed two things:

1. The ringing occurred when I was either reflecting on a past situation or trauma or receiving some intuitive gift (like increased clairvoyance) that I was expanding into.
2. Mindfully noting what I was contemplating from the past, or what my brain was ready for in the future, seemed to deduce which ear the ringing came from.

In the past: The left ear ringing. A releasing of past trauma.

There was one specific incident where I was working through challenging aspects from childhood (imagine that), and my left ear went crazy. "Huh. Interesting," I thought. And then one evening, I was sitting on the bed with my oldest daughter, then a teenager, having a heart-to-heart. Same thing, my left ear went nuts. I also realized at that moment that the ringing was one single tone, a note. With my musical background, and an intuitive nudge, I grabbed my phone and opened the Garage Band app. I matched the tone in my ear with the piano on the app and learned that it was actually an "F" on the scale.

This was yet another fascinating discovery: We were having a deep, meaningful talk about heart hurts from the past, and the "F" note on the musical scale relates to the heart chakra. I was clearing old "gunk" from my past that I'd been holding in my heart space.

My mind was blown. My heart, for one, has never been the same. I even physically felt a sort of tugging at my heart that I now now signifies expansion - maybe you've noticed such subtleties too?

 In the future: The right ear ringing. Bringing in new gifts or intuitive "downloads."

As I'd written previously, when I was encouraged to more deeply explore these gradually becoming-so-obvious-I-couldn't-ignore-them gifts, the ringing occurred more frequently. (Take note of this for yourself - and more on this later.) I continued studying how to connect with angels and ascended masters to "tune my inner compass" into higher frequencies, and simultaneously my right ear seemed to somehow be activated. I'd experience a high-pitched ringing, right ear, and within the next day or so, I noticed heightened clairvoyant abilities.

Now, this was cool, and at the same time a little shocking. The first time I made the connection, I'd heard a ringing in my right ear. Took note. The next day I was walking through the grocery store, and I just happened to glance at a guy and his cart full of beer. I immediately saw a flash, like a wave, of his high school picture. It had the distinct "high school picture" cloudy blue background. He was wearing a navy, long-sleeved polo with a white collar, braces, zits, quasi-mullet. He was insecure and didn't have a lot of friends. I felt this because his eyes seemed to struggle looking at the camera; the picture illustrated this. I sensed he grew up in the Midwest. And then I shifted my gaze immediately out of respect, a little stunned all the while.

At that moment, in the store, I remember feeling confused and so I asked my primary guide why I was seeing this. His response was, "These are your people. This is so you can have compassion." And then, for the record, I set the parameter with my gatekeeper that I did NOT want to see things about people's past, particularly after a visit to Walmart. Thank you. I still incorporate the gift of "vision," clearly, but I only do so when my intuitive antenna is "at work."

Important point (ethics): It is exciting when we begin to "see" and "know" things, but we should first ask permission either verbally or with another one's Higher Self.

What to do when the ringing happens: GROUND

When our bodies receive the clearing (left ear) or upgrade/download (right ear), the first thing we should do is close our eyes and ground the energy into the earth. If you have chronic tinnitus, this may help. Next, simply express gratitude and feel that gratitude coming up from the core of the earth. It's the whole "heavens to earth" or "as above, so below" concept of sharing the frequencies as a sentient being. Mother Earth is shifting quickly too, so sometimes those "gifts" are more for her than us.

Pay attention to which ear is ringing. Notice what aspects of your past you've been working on letting go of (left ear) and, conversely, what new discoveries or downloads might be coming in (right ear). If you are able to match the sounds to an actual note on the scale, see what comes up. General rule of thumb is that C = Root, D = Sacral, E = solar plexus and so on.  If the ringing is specifically in your right ear, slow down, and observe what gifts are expanding for you. It may not be so obvious; it is often more subtle. And though the clouds may not part with a chorus of angels, I still strongly sense the latter is what the ringing actually is.
