Defining Unconditional Love
This topic came up this morning as I read the text in ACIM (A Course in Miracles). I was reading about the symbolism of the white lily, and it was made abundantly clear that I needed to open my eyes and heart and listen. Here is what I heard:
"There are many conditions set on the idea of love, both in terms of giving and receiving it. We must remember, though, that real love has no terms, it just is. If in your life someone loves you on their terms, that is not pure; that is not really love. Moreover, when others do not meet your unspoken or assumed expectations, that is a form of mental torture on BOTH ends. Bottom line: Love comes from within first. We cannot fully understand the fulfilling nature of love until we truly love ourselves and all that we are."
My question in response: OK. So, how do I do this?
"Notice how closely your actions match your words. When you speak to others, do you do so from a place of love? Do you look them in the eye? Do you thank them in your mind for their time and the fact that they are in your life? Do you mean what you say? It is a tough concept to grasp, but we must realize that even strangers have the capacity to provide love.
What it boils down to is that the more we love ourselves, the more we love, have compassion toward, and feel peace and joy with others. Again, we are the light. Love has to start from our own hearts. If you feel stuck, think of how love feels. Breathe that joy, laughter, peace, and love into your heart and imagine it spreading through your entire body and then extending to all who surround you. Your unconditional love can change the world, and the more of us who believe and practice this, the more the world will change for the better."

Lots and lots of love to all,Jess
